A Streetcar Named Desire
A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams is one of the most esteemed plays of the 20th Century and this acclaimed production, with its all-star cast, is set to be one of the biggest West End events of 2023. When Blanche, a broke and faded Southern Belle is forced to move in with her sister Stella and her intense and uncouth husband Stanley, tensions are set on edge and family politics collide in battles over the past, class, pride and territory. Is Blanche a wanton home-wrecker, or a fragile soul pushed into a downward spiral?
Normal People star Paul Mescal leads this revival as Stanley with Patsy Ferran as Blanche, Anjana Vasan as Stella and Dwane Walcott as Mitch. Olivier Award winning director Rebecca Frecknall (Cabaret) directs and, as the Evening Standard wrote "proves herself again to be a director of great vision and invention." This production was already one of the most hyped shows of 2023 when it opened at the Almeida Theatre in January and now it is set to be a highlight of the West End calendar with this transfer to the Phoenix Theatre.
